“The dogs were very proficient informing us when the Japanese were coming our way. Sometimes they would alert us 20-30 minutes before we actually made contact. At times, the leadership did not believe the dogs. When they did, the dogs saved many Marine lives.” www.dpca.org/faithful/vips/wellington.htm

"Mr. Forsyth, of Pinehurst, North Carolina, is perhaps one of the most-renowned all-breed dog show judges and handlers of his generation. Having been born into a dog-show family, Mr. Forsyth has been involved in the sport of dog shows since 1933. In 1942, Mr. Forsyth enlisted with the United States Marine Corps, and served in the Marines from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of the First War Dog Platoon, where he fought overseas in the South Pacific with his canine partner Liney, a Doberman Pinscher." www.dpca.org/faithful/vips/forsyth.htm

DAVID FRANCIS The Fiscal Times February 7, 2014 More than a decade of war has numbed the American public to the human brutality and suffering on the battlefield. But military dogs in harm’s way are a different story. The most recent example of this is a dog that has been captured by the Taliban. A video posted on the YouTube account of a group associated with the Taliban that shows a Belgian Malinois in a flak jacket being held at gunpoint has gone viral, highlighting the use of canines in war. www.thefiscaltimes.com/Articles/2014/02/07/Captured-War-Dog-Captured-Focuses-Public-War#sthash.afqwU7wO.dpuf
